How we grow

  1. PRO-MIX MPO is the bulk tray medium: 60–70% sphagnum peat moss with coir, perlite, limestone, wetting agent, mycorrhizae, and a starter fertilizer charge.
  2. GAIA GREEN All Purpose 4-4-4 is a separate dry fertilizer amendment. The numbers mean 4% nitrogen, 4% available phosphate, and 4% soluble potash.
  3. The current fertilizer comparison mixes 30 g of GAIA GREEN per US gallon of medium—about 32 g in one 4 L 1020 fill—and compares the harvest against an otherwise identical tray without the additional fertilizer.
  4. The Water Man Premium is sourced from a Santa Fe family-owned company. It starts as reverse-osmosis purified water, then calcium, potassium, and magnesium are added for taste before ozonation.
  5. Bootstrap Farmer trays are extra-thick, BPA-free, food-safe polypropylene purchased for years of reuse, not single-use disposal.
  6. The 48 lit 1020 positions provide about 66.7 sq ft of nominal crop surface over two rack footprints totaling about 11.1 sq ft of nominal tray area.
  7. LED lighting gives each shelf consistent light throughout the year and allows several levels of trays to grow in the same room.
  8. Each production record identifies the crop, seed lot, growing-medium lot, grams of seed sown per tray, sowing and harvest dates, saleable yield, and defects.
  9. Living trays (when listed) sold as food for you to cut — not transplants.

One grower, building toward a closed loop

I’m Mike. I’ve always loved growing plants, and my long-term dream is a closed-loop homestead. Santa Fe Greens is what I can build now: healthy food for my own table and high-quality greens I can share with Santa Fe. I sow, monitor, harvest, pack, and deliver every crop myself.

Surplus can become shelf-stable dried food after the process is validated. Beginning in 2027, spent medium and roots from every finished tray are planned for covered raised beds that build soil for outdoor food production. The long-term goal is no waste whatsoever: use everything useful and send nothing useful to the dump.
